Float Tank Instructions
The float tank temp is set at 96 with an air temp of 85. There is 1000 pounds of Epson salt inside the tank which allows your body to float on top of the water. Exclusions from floating is focused on dyed hair and self tanning products. If you have semi or demi permanent hair color or if you have recently dyed your hair within the last two weeks or if you have dyed your hair red with a red henna base then you cannot float. If you have used self tanning products the salt will strip your hair color and tanning dye and deposit it into the water. The expense to correct this is about $4000.00. Please reach out if you are uncertain. The float tank is not a hot tub. It is a therapy session and the tub has to be treated with respect and care.
Here are the steps for having a positive float experience and avoiding damage to the water and tub.
- Shower with soap and wash your hair with clarifying shampoo. Both are provided. DO NOT USE CONDITIONER. Make sure to use the exfoliating wash cloths to wash away any oils or lotions and pay attention to the parts that matter the most. Oils and dirt from your body are stripped by the salt and deposited into the water. The result is a brown ring in the tub and a nasty filter. This results in an additional cleaning fee. If the water is too bad then it will have to be dumped. This will cost several thousands of dollars. You have to shower and make sure your body and hair are clean before entering the tub.
- If you hair has been dyed within the last 14 days or if you have semi permanent hair color on your hair then you are not able to float. This does not pertain to highlights. The salt will strip the dye from your hair and deposit it into the tub. This will result in replacing the salt water and possibly the tub due to dye staining. The salt is $1.75 a pound and there is 1000 pounds in the tank. Not to mention the time and labor.
- Float naked. The detergents from your clothes is not good for the water and can leave soap suds behind.
- On the shelf next to the tank you will find amenities to use during your float. Apply the provided A&D ointment to any cuts or scraps. This will prevent burning from the salt.
- Insert the ear plugs in your ears. The ear plugs can be reused several times. They are wax and are moldable.
- Roll the tank cover back from the tub making sure to put it back on when finished. The salt will leach out of the tank and evaporate settling on everything in the room. The result is an additional cleaning fee and replacement salt fee. Please note the salt is 1.75lb and there is 1000 pounds in the salt tub.
- Float in the dark for complete sensory deprivation. Turn off all the lights by the front door except for the overhead lights above the door. Once inside the tub these can be turned on and off from the switch on the wall inside the tub. Turn the tub light off as well.
- Push the wall button to turn the water circulation on and off during your float. This will stop the water from circulating during your float. Set your alarm on your phone for 60 minutes so you are sure to wake up should you fall asleep. Make sure to start the water circulation when done floating in order to sterilize the water for your next float. Put the cover back on the tub to keep the water and salt evaporation down to a minimum.
- There is a swim cap and a neck brace if you choose to use it during your float. Some people cannot fully relax their neck and the brace will help with that. I encourage the swim cap. Also a spry bottle with water if you get salt in your eyes.
- Keep your towel robe and slippers close by. Dry off your hair and as much of your body as you can before stepping out of the tub. Step into the slippers and dry off to help keep salt water off the floor.
- Shower wash your hair and condition if you choose to. Please do not go into the sauna or outside until you have showered and removed the salt from your body. The salt is deposited on everything you touch and will result in an additional cleaning fee.
- Please put your salt towels in the spa hamper and please do not mix them up with the house towels.
